Haydn and Dvořák: Chamber Music at the Neighborhood Center LISA
On Sunday, October 18, 2026, the Jena Philharmonic invites you to the Neighborhood Concert Lobeda № 1 at the Neighborhood Center LISA. Starting at 3:00 PM, a concentrated sound space will open up within the focus of the performance season, Planet Dvořák, between Viennese Classicism and Bohemian Late Romanticism.
A Musical Dialogue Over 123 Years
Joseph Haydn's String Quartet in D major Op. 20 No. 4 was composed in 1772 and is part of the so-called Sun Quartets. Interrupted form, precise motivic work, and sovereign counterpoint demonstrate how Haydn redefined the string quartet as a compositional experiment. The individual voices emerge independently while simultaneously blending into a clear, lively orchestration.
Antonín Dvořák's String Quartet No. 13 in G major Op. 106 was composed in 1895 after the composer’s return from the USA. Dance-like impulses, broadly stretched melodies, and characteristic twists connect the impressions of the New World with Dvořák's musical engagement with his Bohemian homeland.
Four Voices, One Intense Concert Experience
Weronika Tadzik and Christoph Hilpert on violins, Karina Suslov-Götz on viola, and Alexander Wegelin on cello will shape the program as a finely tuned chamber music dialogue. Between rhythmic precision, warm string colors, and expressive melodic arcs, an immediate live atmosphere emerges where each voice is audible, and every musical synchronization is tangible.
Music Close to the Audience
The neighborhood concert connects professional depth with an accessible concert experience. Haydn's classical form meets Dvořák's colorful sound language; counterpoint, motivic condensation, and Bohemian dance impulses unfold in concentrated stage performance. Before the concert, the restaurant at LISA will offer coffee and cake starting at 2:00 PM.
Conclusion: Two Masterpieces, a Special Sunday Afternoon
The audience can expect a musical journey from the emancipation of voices in Viennese Classicism to the expanded expressive world of the late 19th century. Those who want to experience string quartets in close proximity and with great interpretative clarity will find a special concert date of the Jena Philharmonic at the Neighborhood Center LISA.
