JenaCraft: Young People Build Their City of the Future
What does a Jena look like where young people feel particularly comfortable? During the holiday workshop JenaCraft, young people develop their own ideas for a youth-friendly city center and creatively implement them in Minecraft. This family experience combines digital media, teamwork, and sustainable urban development into a varied learning experience.
With Minecraft, Urban Planning Comes Alive
At the beginning, participants explore which places in Jena they like and what makes these spots special. Together, they gather must-haves – things that cannot be missing in a good city for young people. From these ideas, their own visions of livable public spaces emerge.
Creativity, Team Spirit, and Sustainable Ideas
In small groups, 10- to 14-year-olds design a square from the Jena city center in Minecraft. They connect digital creativity with questions of sustainable urban development. The young people plan, build, discuss, and learn how different wishes can come together in a common model.
Age-Appropriate Holiday Workshop with Educational Value
JenaCraft is designed for young interested individuals aged 10 to 14. The digital working method creates a child- and youth-friendly access to urban planning, participation, and design. In addition to media competence, the workshop promotes spatial thinking, communication, decision-making skills, and collaborative work. Felix Staacke takes on the course leadership.
Well Prepared for the Autumn Holidays
The workshop takes place in the Helene-Petrenz Hall of the Ernst-Abbe Library Jena. Registration is required. The offer is barrier-free, suitable as a bad weather option, and already fully booked.
Conclusion: Shaping the Future Together
JenaCraft demonstrates how children's and youth ideas can turn into concrete urban models. Young people experience digital design, sustainable development, and shared time in an inspiring learning environment. Those who participated took home a creative family and educational experience – and perhaps also the desire to view their own city with new eyes in the future.
