Game On: Playing Together, Laughing, and Discovering New Worlds
On Thursday, October 22, 2026, the Ernst-Abbe-Library Jena invites children up to 12 years old to a diverse family experience. At Game On, digital adventures on the Nintendo Switch meet classic board games – bringing laughter, shared time, and new social contacts for children.
Gaming Fun on the Nintendo Switch
Children will play together or against each other on the console. This creates exciting moments where they learn rules, make decisions, and experience fair play. The child-friendly approach to gaming combines entertainment with an important learning experience in communication, consideration, and joint decision-making.
Board Games Foster Curiosity and Development
Analog games also invite kids to tinker, marvel, and actively participate. By rolling dice, planning, and experimenting, children appropriately strengthen their attention, strategy, and frustration tolerance. Winning and losing are both part of the fun of learning, as is finding solutions together.
Open Meeting Point for Children Up to 12 Years Old
Games will be played in the workshop of the Ernst-Abbe-Library on the ground floor at level 0. The offering is aimed at children up to 12 years and is suitable as a protected indoor family experience. Registration is not required, so families can drop by spontaneously and enjoy a playful afternoon in the library.
Conclusion: Controllers, Cards, and Lots of Children's Laughter
Game On combines digital media education with classic play and creates space for curiosity, community feeling, and shared time. Children will experience a varied afternoon with the Switch, board games, and new play partners. Families are invited to experience this free offering live at the Ernst-Abbe-Library Jena.
