How does an idea become a real computer game? In the workshop Programming Games with Witelo, children aged 10 and up discover the creative world of programming at the Ernst-Abbe-Library Lobeda. Together with Witelo e.V., they develop their first game ideas with Scratch and experience a child-friendly family event centered around technology, imagination, and learning fun.
Programming becomes an adventure
At the center is Scratch, a visual programming language that allows children to move characters, design scenes, and create their own game rules. The colorful programming blocks make the entry easier and make the first learning experiences visible right away. Step by step, small digital worlds are created where curiosity, logical thinking, and creativity come together.
Age-appropriate learning fun with Witelo
The offer is aimed at interested children from 10 years old or from grade 5. The age-appropriate design supports important skills such as focused work, problem-solving thinking, and safe handling of digital tools. Course leader Dr. Nico Bergemann accompanies the workshop. Children can try out their own ideas, understand mistakes as learning steps, and at the end look at a self-developed project.
Quality time in the local library
The calm atmosphere of the local library provides a suitable setting for focused tinkering and joint discovery. Children work on their game ideas, exchange ideas, and experience how movement, sound, and tension emerge from individual blocks. This strengthens self-confidence, perseverance, and the sense of community.

The workshop takes place on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Ernst-Abbe-Library Local Library Lobeda. The event is free of charge, and registration is not necessary. The offer takes place every Friday outside of school holidays.
