Bring Your Own Game Ideas to Life in Jena

How does an idea become a computer game? In the workshop Programming Games with Witelo, children aged 10 and up discover the creative world of Scratch at the Ernst-Abbe-Bibliothek Lobeda. Together with witelo e.V., they develop their own digital game ideas and experience programming as a child-friendly family experience filled with curiosity, fun learning, and visible moments of success.

With Scratch, Programming Becomes an Adventure

Scratch uses colorful programming blocks that children intuitively connect. Characters move, backgrounds change, and step by step, their own game world emerges from individual blocks. The children try out their ideas directly, discover cause-and-effect relationships, and learn how imagination grows into a functioning digital project.

Creativity Meets Logical Thinking

The workshop combines digital education with an age-appropriate learning experience. While planning, testing, and modifying games, participants practice structured thinking and develop their own solutions. Curiosity, independent work, and joy in experimentation are at the center of this experience. No prior knowledge is required to start with Scratch.

Fun Learning in the Neighborhood Library

The Ernst-Abbe-Bibliothek in Lobeda provides a suitable learning space for curious children. Amid books, media, and educational offerings, there is room for focused tinkering, joint discovery, and children's laughter. Dr. Nico Bergemann leads the course. The offer is particularly aimed at children aged 10 and above, as well as students in grades 5 and 6.

Regular, Free, and No Registration Required

The workshop takes place every Friday from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM outside of school holidays. Participation is free, and no registration is necessary. This gives families an uncomplicated access to computer science, digital creativity, and modern STEM education through witelo e.V.

Conclusion: Programming as a Creative Family Experience

In the game programming workshop with Scratch, children experience that technology can be a language for their own stories, ideas, and games. On November 6, 2026, shared time, fun learning, and exciting digital discoveries await at the neighborhood library in Lobeda. Anyone curious about computer science should experience this free children's offer live.
